Adorable vintage "sailor" hat from Gimbels in brown fine straw with a brown veil set in a unique design on the brim. Also, has a nice strong wide grosgrain ribbon with an elastic band to keep it forward on the head.

Sailor and skimmer hat names were used interchangeably. In summer they were made of straw and formed a wide flat brim with shallow circle crown. The usual wide ribbons, bows, feathers, and veils added interest to these sun hats. In the winter the shape remained but the materials turned to felt or velvet.



Total width is 11", the brim is 2.5". Perfect condition!

This vintage hat is ready for your next vintage affair, church, USO dance, reenactors event, vintage fashion show, wedding hat, funeral hat, and great for Movie, Tv and theatre costume. Or maybe even the Kentucky Derby!
